Items received for free via a promotion are not transferable. Even Fender realizes this, and isolates the chassis of their reissue units. Please note that not all software is transferable. This is true of any high voltage device connected to another in more than one way (the unit shares wall common with the amp - even if on different breakers - and they're also connected by the instrument cable). Not sure how far they'll go if you can't get it working, but their retail service rep is outstanding, so.Īll that said, I'm disappointed they didn't address the fact that the 6G15 in particular is going to be one noisy beast, unless one isolates / elevates the circuit from chassis ground. I suspect you'll get some pretty darn good support if you run into trouble. Again, great for the newbie.Īll the steps are labeled, and they remind you they're only a phone call away. The instructions even show pictures of every single part type, with the lettering to match the spec. Knowing S-M, the parts list will be perfect. You're paying for someone to prepare it as a kit. Re the price, as was said, you're not paying for some components. They identify the basics - this is the power supply circuit, this is the preamp gain, this is the signal processing. They don't spend a lot of time on it - remembering who their target audience is, no doubt - but at the end of the process (after you've succeeded and can't be scared off by the language of cathodes, grids, etc), they spend a page or two going over the schematic. Your focus is on following instructions to the letter, not theorizing about electron flow. The issue with kit builds in general is that while you get to do the work, you still don't necessarily develop an understanding of how tube amps work. If you're a complete noob, and are a bit scared of electricity, or feel overwhelmed by the task, then StewMac kits are really going to help you get started. They even surpass the excellent instructions included with an Allen kit I built a few years ago. These are hands-down the best instructions I've seen on any kit. I'm not the target audience for their kits, but I just read the instructions for their 6G15 kit.
